Travel Tips to visit Bavaro – Punta Cana in Dominican Republic

Travel Tips:

BAVARO - PUNTA CANA

The Dominican Republic is a country with a privileged climate and environment. If you are thinking of coming to Bavaro – Punta Cana, we suggest you to have some things in mind to make your trip much better:

Be prepared for the arrival. Take all the documents with you and have a vehicle waiting for you to take you from the airport to the hotel. After a long trip you will want to arrive as soon as possible and safely and comfortably at your destination.

Try to speak the language. This is something that everyone should always try to do. More often than not, people will appreciate you trying to communicate in the local language, and we think the staff and others you interact with would treat you better because of this.

Always Tip. Take lots of cash for tipping with you. If you talk to any employee at your resort, you will learn that they work long hours and goes days without seeing their family. The staff will be very kind with you, so you will be more than happy to tip.

Protect your skin and body. You should take good care of your skin. Take lots of sunscreen and bug spray and use them often not to suffer sun burns and insect stings… Apply it religiously. . . especially if you’re doing nature activities.

Do you need shuttle? You can directly book your transport services with us >

Professional and reliable transportation services in affordable prices.

Bring a medicine cabinet. We advise you to bring: ibuprofen, antihistamines, Betadine, bandages and special medicines for your own needs. At some point during the trip you may need them.

Get off the resort. there are some cool excursions, and even just outside of the resort will help you to see a little more of the island. Your trip will not be the same if you stay at your resort the whole trip.

Eat out of the resort some day. To know a country, in addition to its culture and its people, you have to try their food. There is nothing better than eating at a beach bar on a paradisiac beach away from tourism.

Punta Cana is the crown jewel of Caribbean beach destinations in Dominican Republic and never disappoint. A seemingly endless list of resorts offers all-inclusive luxury alongside affordable options to suit any type of traveler, with hotels ranging from family-friendly to opulent.

Important Things to Ask When Checking Into a Punta Cana All-Inclusive Resort

Things to Ask When Checking

Into a Punta Cana All-Inclusive Resort

Seasoned travelers with more than a few all-inclusive stays under their belt know that quality can vary from resort to resort. Take Punta Cana, a gorgeous stretch of prime beaches and plenty of all-inclusive properties. While many of the resorts here have similar concepts and designs, differences tend to sneak up that may not be communicated during the booking process. And the bigger the resort, the harder it may be to snag a staff member to chat with, especially with substantial lines at the front desk. That’s why the check-in process is the best opportunity to get things straight.

Dominican Republic is the perfect destination to suit any traveler.

1. Do we need to make reservations for the restaurants (and is there a dress code?)

Nothing is more frustrating than being told you can’t get a table at an all-inclusive resort’s restaurant because you don’t have a reservation. Many high-end resorts, which features nine gourmet restaurants, don’t require dinner reservations, but not all operate the same way. Some resorts not only make reservations mandatory, but demand a strict morning time for bookings. Oh! And remember, ask if there’s a dress code, too.

2. What’s the entertainment schedule?

Getting a schedule of the resort’s nightlife and entertainment options when checking in isn’t always a guarantee. If this is a key part of your experience, ask the front desk for a rundown of what’s happening that week. It also doesn’t hurt to ask their opinion on what the best shows are.

3. Which water sports and day trips are included?

Most mid-range tropical all-inclusive resorts will include non-motorized water sports (think kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and snorkeling) with the rate. Some, however, still charge an obnoxious fee or require strict time limits to an hour per day, or worse, per week.

If you plan to visit an all-inclusive resort in DR, you can directly book your shuttle services with us >

Professional and reliable transportation services to affordable prices.

4. What’s the tipping policy?

Not only is this a key area of difference between cultures, it’s also an area of variance between resorts. Some all-inclusives automatically add a 10 percent (or more) service charge with the rate, so ask the front desk while checking in. Unfortunately, many of the folks who work at these resorts are paid a very low wage and depend on tips for income.

5. Are minibar items and room service free?

It’s worth asking. At the very least, many rooms have free bottled water. Some even offer full minibar access with free soda, beer, and snacks; coffeemakers are also provided.

6. Is there an upgrade option?

Depending on the resort, availability, and time of year, an upgrade can be obtained for a nominal fee. Find out from the front desk what the options and benefits are of moving up.

Punta Cana, the crown jewel of Caribbean beach destinations, does not disappoint. A seemingly endless list of resorts offers all-inclusive luxury alongside affordable options to suit any type of traveler, with hotels ranging from family-friendly to opulent.

Juan Dolio – More than a beach town

Juan Dolio

More than a beach town

JUAN DOLIO

Guayacanes and Juan Dolio are beach towns that mainly cater to residents driving in from Santo Domingo on the weekends for the beach, attracted by the very good restaurants and good golf. Two large residential communities, Metro and Guavaberry, plus a handful of recently constructed apartments, and its hotels keep the community alive during weekdays.

Juan Dolio is also an option for visitors wanting to make side trips to see Santo Domingo and La Romana attractions, both around an hour west or east. Las Americas International (SDQ) is the recommended port of entry for those headed to Juan Dolio hotels.

BEACHES

PLAYA JUAN DOLIO

This beach has both waves and calmer areas. Juan Dolio has two roads – Calle Principal and the Boulevard, around which most of the residences and restaurants are located. In recent years, high-rise beachfront apartments have gone up that cater to affluent city dwellers who drive in on weekends, attracted by the many good restaurants. Go for the sunset, and stay for dinner.

PLAYA GUAYACANES

A yet to be developed beach town. Its golden sand beachfront is walkable and fronts beach homes. Good beach shoes are recommended because there are some rocks on the way. It is a lovely stroll to do early in the morning with the rising sun or late in the afternoon to see the sunset.

JUAN DOLIO NIGHTLIFE

Eating at the many good restaurants in Guayacanes at Calle Central and Juan Dolio at the Boulevard or Calle Principal, with or without a view, brings thousands of city residents to this beach area, especially on weekends. Many of the restaurants double as bars and lounges. Try your luck gambling at Dream Casino at the Coral Costa Caribe resort in Juan Dolio.

CUEVA DE LAS MARAVILLAS

The Cave of the Wonders is located west of La Romana on the San Pedro de Macorís-La Romana highway, near the Soco River and Playa Nueva Romana. It has some of the best and most numerous examples of indigenous Taino rock art (dating back 500 to 800 years) found in the eastern part of the island. Around 500 paintings and engravings on rock have been counted and many can be seen on the 787-foot (240-meter) trail inside the cave. The cave art shows human figures, iguanas, snakes, owls and bats. Visitors will go down 82 feet (25 meters) to the cool inner chambers of the earth. The path can be covered in around an hour and is recommended on days of intense heat or rain.

GOLF

LOS MARLINS GOLF COURSE

Los Marlins is part of the Metro Country Club residential complex in San Pedro de Macorís, half way between Santo Domingo and La Romana. It’s a fairly short course, just 6,410 yards from its blue tees. However, players who know it well warn that it should not be taken lightly. That’s because some of the fairways are extremely narrow and others are protected by sand traps and water. Its signature hole is the 4th hole, a 193-yard par 3 from the white tees. It’s a totally straight hole with out of bounds on both sides. Because its very small green is surrounded by traps, this hole is difficult even for the most professional of golfers.

Location: Metro Country Club, Boulevard de Juan Dolio

GUAVABERRY GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB

Located 30 minutes east of the Santo Domingo airport and close to the Juan Dolio tourist area, the course borders a tropical forest and nature reserve. The 13th hole is its signature hole, a par 3 with a crystal-clear waterfall that can distract even the most expert golfers. The 16th hole, for example, blends right into a natural tropical forest. The final hole then provides a different challenge, asking you to play against strong crosswinds that come from 200,000 year old coral rock formations. The course is located at the center of the Guavaberry residential development.

Location: Autovía del Este Km. 55, Juan Dolio

Bayahibe – More than a fishing village

BAYAHÍBE

a charming village

Bayahibe | More than a fishing village

Bayahíbe is a town in the Dominican Republic, located about 10 miles (16 km) east of La Romana on the shore of the Caribbean Sea. Founded as a fishing village in 1874 by Juan Brito and his family, who came from Puerto Rico, the town is now a tourist destination.

Tourism

Bayahíbe Beach, a public beach, is located less than a mile from the town center, and Dominicus Beach is in about three miles distance. Bayahíbe serves as an embarkation point for boat trips to Saona Island, a thinly inhabited island with extensive beaches located in a national park. In the vicinity of Bayahíbe and Dominicus Beach, numerous large resorts in Bayahibe are located.

Scuba Diving & other watersports

Scuba diving is probably the most common tourist attraction in Bayahíbe – Bayahíbe being the best location for scuba in the Dominican Republic. There are numerous scuba diving shops scattered around the main beach that take scuba divers to the many dive sites around the area. There are over 20 official dive sites located near Bayahíbe and all are accessible from the dive boats in the area. There are three shipwrecks in the area including Atlantic Princess, St George and Coco. Bayahíbe benefits from the crystal clear, calm waters of the Caribbean Sea which makes it perfect for many water sports including snorkeling and stand up paddle boarding.
